If you are still using an inkjet printer then it's time to get rid of that dinosaur and get yourself one of the new laser jet printers. There is no reason for you to have to wait minutes when you could have a page printed in seconds. The laser printers have come down drastically in price and will save you both time and money in the long run. Let's take a look at some of the differences in each printer.
Speed
A typical inkjet printer will print a text only page in about a minute where a laser printer will print out a typical page in a couple of seconds. If your time isn't valuable then by all means keep using the old inkjet. If you are like me then speed means everything.
Ink Cartridges
First off the laser jet printers don't use the typical ink cartridges. They use a toner cartridge that utilizes a more advanced technology. Instead of using actual ink the laser printer uses magnetic particulates that are electrically charged and heated to adhere to the printer paper. The toner cartridge is much larger than a typical inkjet cartridge and will last much longer, meaning fewer trips to the store to buy more ink.
Cost
The laser jet printers are more expensive to buy than an inkjet printer. This was more of a concern when the laser printer first came out but today you can buy one for around $100 compared to an inkjet printer that will run you on the average about $75. This is such a small difference in price that it makes no sense to get the inkjet.
Savings
When you compare printers you have to look at the cost per page to print. This will take into consideration the price of the ink. A laser jet printer will typically cost anywhere between 1.5 cents and 2.5 cents per page to print. Your typical inkjet printer can run you upwards of 5 cents per page to print. With the cost of ink increasing the price per page will go up accordingly. The average toner cartridge will run you about $50 and will allow you to print up to 4,000 pages while an ink cartridge will cost up to $20 and will print on an average of 300 to 400 pages per cartridge. That means more trips to the store and more time wasted changing cartridges.
Color
Most people buy inkjet printers because of the ability to print in color but today there are many laser jet printers that will print in both black and in color. The price of the color laser printer is more by comparison but still saves money in the long run based on the figures noted above.
There really is no good reason not to get one of the new laser jet printers. Why waste your time and money on old technology when you could be printing faster and getting much more accomplished in the same amount of time. In every facet the laser is a better printer.
