In all respects, it is known that laser A3 printers are better than A3 inkjet printers. When it comes to quality, laser printers are better. When it comes to printing in color, they produce darker black than inkjet printers. When it comes to speed, they leave inkjet printers behind by a mile. The only that makes you not want to buy them is their price. An A3 laser printer is a lot more expensive than an A3 inkjet printer for reasons that we will discuss below.
They Need Special Components /tempered
A laser A3 printer requires more precision components compared to inkjet printers. In the case of inkjet printer, the only high precision component you need is the print head itself. For A3 laser printers, you need the laser, which changes the polarity of the drum, the drum, a photo-resistive component, and the heating element, which heats up the surface of the paper to make the ink fuse with the paper. A lot of their components are also tempered in order to be able to tolerate high temperatures, which is needed in the printing process.
They Are Fast
This is by far one of the best features of A3 laser printers which also make them very expensive. The fastest laser printer, which is currently sold by IBM, the Infoprint can go as high as 350 pages per minute. It even has the option for duplex printing which makes the speed go as high as 700 pages per minute. Technically, it can only print in the same speed as the simplex mode. However, since it can print on the opposite side at the same time, it makes the speed twice as fast. Inkjet printers, as of 2009, can only reach up to 150 pages per minute. The printer that makes this speed is the RISO ComColor 9050.
More Accurate
An A3 printer can produce documents that are accurate to 0.1 of a millimeter. The reason being is that they use electrons to transfer ink granules from the toner cartridge to the paper. Electrons are known to be very small which means you are assured of the maximum accuracy with these printers. Inkjet printers on the other hand use wet ink. This messes up their accuracy a bit because it allows the paper to absorb the ink and part of the ink can go to lateral directions.
They Are Cheaper
It is a bit ironic that it says here A3 laser printers are cheaper when the title says they expensive. Actually, they are a bit of both. A3 laser printers are expensive when you buy them. However, everything after that is cheaper than the requirements of an inkjet printer. Take for example the toner cartridge. Toner cartridges can go as high as a few thousand pages before running out whereas ink cartridges can go for a few hundreds. Considering that both of them are roughly within the same price range, it would mean that the cost to print a page using a laser printer is much cheaper.
A3 laser printers are very expensive because of the following reasons mentioned above. To think, it doesn't even include yet the enhancements made for custom use of different businesses.
