How to Choose Your Printer

Printing technology has come a long way in a short period of time. There are several types of printers which include the reliable workhorse inkjet printer, the fast laser printer, and the tiny travel laser or inkjet buddies that go anywhere, but may have limited capabilities. Printer manufacturers design printers for multitaskers, photographers, students, and for home users who need a reliable printer for occasional projects as well as for home offices.

Inkjet with ink cartridges are a necessity when it comes to long lasting photographs and lasers with laser toners can produce a lot of documents quickly. Home users expect good results every time they need a color newsletter or a document printed so the versatile inkjet is usually the best choice because of price as well as the quality of the printer ink, but that quality varies from one ink cartridge brand to another.

Some home users spend more to buy a laser printer that requires toner cartridges for fast quality graphics and they use a color inkjet for photos or they use a snapshot printer for digital photographs. Most people who have a home office choose a multifunction printer that is a fax machine, copier, and printer that's capable of producing quality photos as well as legible documents.

Writers usually choose a laser printer that can crank out page after page quickly, but laser models cost more initially. Laser printers are less expensive to operate especially if you buy recycled laser toners and follow a few simple rules when it comes to font size, resolutions, and the quality default setting.

Laser Printers Usually Function in Black and White

Most people who have done a little research know that a laser printer is usually only black and white, and inkjet printing means color as well as black and white. Color ink cartridges offer consumers amazing color results when banners, greeting cards, marketing material, and art designs are needed, but the ink cartridges have to be changed frequently, plus the printer is slower, and the printing cost is more per page than a laser printer with a color toner cartridge.

The price of a color laser printer is much higher than the cost of a black and white and an inkjet printer combined. However, the cost of a color page is lower than a color page copied from a commercial color copier. An expensive color laser printer is much faster and much more reliable than a better grade inkjet printer.

The wireless printer is a great addition to the printer family especially if home users need to share a printer with another member of the family. The printer can be in one room and the computers can be in different rooms. Laptop users like to use a wireless printer although wireless printer demand is slowing down because of the popularity of Ethernet networks at the office and at home.
